1.1 Background of the Study
Rural livelihoods are critical to the socio-economic development of Nigeria, with the majority of the population relying on agriculture, craft, and local industries for their sustenance. Bali Local Government Area (LGA) in Taraba State is predominantly rural, with a population that depends on farming, livestock rearing, and small-scale industries for their livelihoods. However, rural areas often face challenges such as limited access to markets, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of awareness about opportunities for improvement. Photography, as a powerful visual tool, can help promote rural livelihoods by documenting agricultural practices, local entrepreneurship, and community life, showcasing the resilience and contributions of rural communities. This study investigates how photography can be utilized to promote rural livelihoods in Bali LGA by highlighting the daily activities, challenges, and successes of the local population.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the vital role that rural communities play in the overall economy, rural livelihoods in Bali LGA are often overlooked, with limited access to information that could help improve their living conditions and income-generating opportunities. While governmental and non-governmental initiatives have been introduced to support rural development, there remains a gap in the visual representation of rural life and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods. Photography has the potential to raise awareness of rural livelihoods and enhance their visibility. However, its role in promoting rural livelihoods in Bali LGA has not been adequately explored. This study seeks to examine how photography can be a catalyst for promoting rural livelihoods in the region.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it underscores the potential of photography as a tool for promoting rural livelihoods, which are often marginalized in mainstream development discussions. By showcasing the work and life of rural communities, photography can draw attention to the issues they face and generate support for policies and initiatives that will improve their living standards. The study could also contribute to broader rural development efforts in Nigeria.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses exclusively on Bali LGA in Taraba State, examining how photography can promote rural livelihoods in this specific region. It does not extend to other rural areas or other forms of media used for rural advocacy.
